Underwater welding

Dry Hyperbaric welding is the process of welding at elevated pressures underwater. It is performed inside a specially constructed  cofferdam, creating a dry environment.

Defective shell plating sections can be replaced underwater by class approved permanent dry welding. When necessary, custom fabrication of habitats is carried out on-site.

Welding is performed in a wet environment  using shielded metal arc welding with a waterproof electrode. This is commonly used for temporary repairs and construction.

FN Diving performs both wet welding for temporary or permanent underwater repairs, from anode renewal to rudder or hull plating repairs. Other applications include sacrificial anode replacement, damage control for marine casualties, rope guard repairs, rudder repairs, hull weld repairs, bilge keel repairs, external doubler plates and sealing up disused inlets and outlets.

Safe, reliable and cost effective

Underwater welding is a safe, reliable and cost effective technique for temporary repair and construction. We diligently test new materials and methods in our simulated underwater environment in order to be at the forefront of the latest technology.
