Sea Chest Repair Underwater

During a scheduled underwater class inspection alongside in Rotterdam, dive technicians discovered that five sea chest gratings were missing from the vessel’s hull. 

This triggered a full class remark, requiring immediate corrective action.

Within 72 hrs in collaboration with our steel workshop in Rotterdam, FN Diving Rotterdam fabricated and installed five new gratings, fully customised to the vessel’s sea chest grating specifications. The installation was carried out underwater by our dive teams, using one of teh repair quays in the Port of Rotterdam.

To ensure safe and future-proof access, special diver friendly hinged systems were used, allowing for diver-friendly underwater installation and easy future removal when needed in order to clean the box coolers. 

All gratings were successfully reinstalled by means of underwater welding and remarks removed by the attending class surveyor.

Thanks to our rapid response and in-house capabilities, the vessel regained full compliance.
